3/5 ★ – Jim_Howdy's review of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Glad I finally got to play this but there were definitely some growing pains :) Maro & Loogis had a pretty great start to the series. While there are some rough patches, overall, it’s a pretty good package. Something I tried keeping in mind was that I came freshly off the rpg remake so a lot of this game felt unnecessary as it’s far less compact of an experience. Looking at some positives though, there is a lot of charm and the classic witty dialogue expected from this series. Combat was fun but had quite the learning curve when it came to dodging with a lot of delay in actions. I now have a new appreciation for the future games and the added feedback when it comes to combat. Traversal was a whole different beast that took some fumbling and learning. With the very compact map design you need to use and scroll through the different abilities constantly which can get a bit annoying at times. Which leads to some of the puzzles, a lot are pretty fun/creative and can be a good time. However, a lot of the dungeons, specifically the last, drag on far too long. Some of the challenges are simply annoying and I admit to abusing the rewind to do them. Also, the final boss as everyone says is kinda nuts. It’s fun but compared to everything else there is quite a spike in difficulty and learning. Good short game, but if you want to play a Mario and Luigi game definitely go with one of the others.
