1.5/5 ★ – Jrdotan's review of Sid Meier's Civilization VI.

Civ 5 was quite of a surprisingly decent game after how bad civ 4 was, which was not only cool for reviving the series but also showing how much potential 4x strat games had to be both acessible and still quite complex in terms of sheer possibilities When civ 6 was released, much was expected from it as both a sequel and a modern 4x, what we got instead was pretty much a semi-functional strategy game with some cool ideas such as the more cartoony art- style, which emphasizes the idea of the more campy tone of civ compared to more serious strategy titles with vivid colors and some really silly animations. Another element that was new and cool for civ 6 was the idea of districts, which is basically the specializations for each town which now are split between your town instead of being all focused in the city´s center. this means now the player has new options to vary their playstyles as well as more things to protect and make develop over time, it also reinforces one of the main draws this game has compared to civ 5: The game has WAY too much micro- management, not only coming from the fact you need to constantly update all of those districts as well as your town center, while you do research and stuff but also, now even your builders need to be micromanaged since now they are troops with limited uses that can only build 3 things at time and then vanish, which is really annoying. Want to know what else is annoying? The A.I, which has weird pathfinding and usually will open hostility against enemies they have no chance of winning. this is a HUGE downgrade from CIV 5 which had decent a.i, but not only pathfinding and their lack of self defense are a problem, the A.I also presents a huge problem when it comes to the diplomacy system. Now we technically not only have the ability to make huge alliances with Npcs and other nations, but also join diplomatic changes and help each other to grow in order to achieve our goals more easily. Problem? the A.I is so stupid they will constantly lose loyalty with you for no reason aside from some random stupid thing, which means you just cant reliably maintain your diplomacy without basically speedruning conquest and taking the whole map for yourself without even having time to think or manage your troops. recall what i´ve said about the micro-management being necessary? well, it seems like it doenst fit well with how the game was designed, does it? What is really funny about all that is how the game seemed to embrace the idea of being an annoying speedrun since even the new religious victory condition is absurd, which is basicallya victory you can achieve by funding a religion and converting all nations to said religion, which is surprinsingly easy to achieve just by sending a lot of inquisitors to other nations and spreading the whole thing, its actually so stupid that it ends up making playtroughts very anti- climatic. All in all, this ends up being another shitty strat game that was a very dissapointment, made in an era in which less game devs seem to understand what actually make such games fun. its not a good game and i do not recommend it over Civ 5.
