3.5/5 ★ – JustTru's review of Red Dead Redemption II.

I have quite a lot to say about this game that will mostly just be a pro-con list. I will take my topics one at a time. The first and most important thing is the characters. There are a lot of good characters here and the game juggles them all perfectly. Most of them aren't one-note and are interesting, but only a few of them actually stand out as memorable characters for me. The game makes me care a little bit about all the characters, but only a lot about one. It is just Dutch though, for I find his arc the most memorable and emotional. He is the only character that I find consistently entertaining throughout the whole game. I really like Arthur in the last two chapters, and Rains Fall as well. The second main appeal of the game for me was the immersion. Fast travel is not really a constant option here, and the world is incredibly detailed. There is life everywhere. Most of the missions are actually fairly tedious. For many, it would be excruciatingly immersive and boring, but I actually really like getting lost in it. However the game is extremely long, and there is not a ton of variation barring Guarma. The combat is repetitive and lacks sustanence. I really enjoyed the Epilogue, almost more than the game itself. There aren't too many characters and there is a succinct and personal story. This is what I wanted from this game more than anything. I actually care quite a bit about John in this section, and I anticipate that I will enjoy the first game more than this one.
