3.5/5 ★ – KHFanXIII's review of Daxter.

I've never played Daxter before. I had honestly never heard of it growing up and only found out about it in the last 5-7 years. Since learning about it, I was super interested. Growing up, I played through the Jak and Daxter series over and over again. It was one of my favorite game series and I was always playing it (I even played The Lost Frontier lol). Learning years later that there is a game that fits in between Jak 1 and 2 and stars Daxter? That definitely captured my thoughts. So, how does this game fair? Honestly not too shabby. Compared to the Ratchet PSP games, this is a lot better. While it's not on par with the main series, it is a really fun platformer that I know I would've loved if I had it on PSP back in the day. It plays pretty similarly to the main series, just scaled back to fit on a handheld and to fit Daxter's smaller stature. The plot itself was super enjoyable to me, even if it wasn't super compelling. I just love that universe, especially Jak 2, so having a game that directly leads into that game is just perfect for someone like me. It actually even helps set up a major character in Jak 3 that just kind of appeared out of nowhere in that game. The only thing I should mention is on the PSP emulated version on PS5 (which is what I played), there is a bug where music just won't play for a long time. It eventually will, but there were vast swathes of gameplay where it was silent aside from sound effects. Overall, this is a really fun platformer that any Jak fan, or just overall fan of the genre, should check out.
