4.5/5 ★ – KHFanXIII's review of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2.
This is it. They made the pinnacle of the Tony Hawk series right here.
Now, bearing in mind, I haven't played anything in the series past American Wasteland (outside of a very, very, very small amount of Project 8 on 360), but I feel like I can stand by that statement.
As I mentioned in my other reviews, I really did feel like Pro Skater 3 was the peak for the series, and a lot of that has to do with the classic game formula being mixed with the modern controls.
Now here you have that same kind of thing, Pro Skater 3/4 style movement and controls combined with the god-tier levels of the first two games and I'm not sure if you could make a better game in this series.
Everything about it feels right and the small nitpicks I have don't really detract much from the experience (that being the short campaign, odd censorship of music, sound effects sounding a bit too "soft," and a somewhat oddly limited Create-A-Skater mode). I could probably play this game infinitely, and stuff like the amazing Create-A-Park section (showing off user-created parks, including a rating system allowing you to sort by the best made ones) will definitely factor into that.
This is also the first time I have gotten to play online multiplayer in the series and this is also super fun. Grafitti, Trick Attack, Combo Mambo, etc. are all here, and playing them online and dominating matches is something that I found to be incredibly fun. Just this mode alone will contribute to the replayability.
There are also challenges which are little tasks for you to do and there are a fuck-ton of them. There are challenges per skater you play as, for each level, for certain moves, etc. there's just so many.
All of this makes the game feel quite ripe for playing for years to come and I literally will be playing this game for the rest of my life. Thank you Vicarious Visions for bringing back Tony Hawk and knocking it out of the fucking park.
