KHFanXIII's review of Yakuza: Dead Souls.

Yakuza: Dead Souls is a interesting little spinoff. It's odd that they decided to give this game to us at all, but ah well. I'm not really reviewing this as I did other Yakuza games (and as such I'm not going to rate this one) as I mostly rushed through this game so I could continue the main saga, but I still just wanted to at least give some thoughts on it. The first thing that hit me was going from the crisp, smooth 1080p/60fps of the remasters, to this 720p/30fps with frequent frame drops and screen tearing game was like a flashbang. I understand why I don't go back to that generation very often now, as a lot of games are exactly like this (especially on PS3). Oh and what's cool is that this is the first time (technically) in the series that Majima was playable. Not that it's super unique because every character is basically the same in this game, just with a different gun, but it's neat that his first playable appearance was localized for the US. The plot is just kind of nothing. It feels like a filler plot in an anime, which is fine I suppose, since it's a non-canon spinoff, but I wish they would've taken that non-canonical nature (especially as it's a zombie game) and really go wild with it. Kill off some main characters or something, but ce la vie. Later on I'll come back and give this a proper review, as I did none of the side-content (particular impressive in this game as it has all of the standard stuff you'd expect in a Yakuza game with substories, hostess stuff, etc.), but for now I think the game is just fine, but probably the worst Yakuza.
