1.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

TLDR: Man what the hell is this even supposed to be. Gameplay: Point and shoot from Alan Wake was pretty fun, but they somehow made it boring. I think the reason for this is because they took out ranged enemies. Annoying as they were, ranged enemies made encounters more interesting and tense in the first game. Now they are replaced with a couple of new Taken types which all have some gimmick but are all dealt with the same exact way. They walk towards you, you hit them with your flashlight and shoot them. I didn't die a single time because of this. It doesnt matter how many surrond you either because you just need to jerk your flashlight around to blind them and interrupt their attack. But fine, do we at least get to see some interesting stuff? No. We have the same three areas revisted three times due to a 'time loop'. You don't do anything different during each visit, but the returning trips are a bit shorter. Which is like? I feel like you're supposed to make things longer and more intense towards the end. Not the other way around. Whatever. The story mode is a massive flop. But they also have 'Arcade Action' which I played for about a minute and a half before I cracked and exited. It's just so boring. So so boring. I would advise to skip this one since it's so inconsequential. Story: What is with these characters? All three NPC's that Alan comes into contact two are young beautiful women. That's not the issue, the issue is that it comes off as a bit pandering and almost like a porn? When I saw Dr. Meadows the first thing I thought was that she looked like she hopped out of some cheap porno. And then I felt a bit sexist for thinking that. And then Alan mentions her unusual outfit and I felt vilified. The next NPC is brainwashed or something and immediately makes sexual advances on Wake including getting down on her knees and thats when I knew that this wasn't a coincidence. They were doing something here, I don't know what exactly but I did not like it. The mechanic lady is alright though. Also a lot of time is dedicated to explaining the Dark Place which is what I thought the first game made a point to avoid because it isn't as interesting as keeping it a mystery. The story is just whatever. I don't really know what's happening and why it's happening. It doesn't really matter though does it? Graphics: Pretty much on par with the first game. Mr. Scratch being this evil Alan Wake with a suit and slicked hair is completely absurd. Sound: I have nothing to say. Extra: You can collect manuscript pages which unlock new guns. New guns operate almost identically to each other except some are automatic and some are semi-automatic. You might as well just pick whatever gun you prefer and stick with it because it doesn't really matter. This just made me realize that they took out the quicker reload too. Man what the hell. Favorite Thing: Dude...nothing. Not My Favorite Thing: Snooze Fest.
