2/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Crysis 2 Remastered.
TLDR:
Ooo! Crysis! Wait wha- Call of Duty?!
Gameplay:
Whatever identity Crysis initially had has been harmed by this game immensely. Crysis 1 wasn't amazing but it was unique and had a certain feel. But Crysis 2 ends up feeling generic. It's very dissapointing. Gameplay can feel extremely jank. Crysis 1 felt much more polished than this. Levels are very linear. Level design feels lacking and enemy squads rarely felt engaging. Grabbing enemies is incredibly jank but really funny. Switching weapons rapidly has a habit of messing with the game. And sometimes things simply don't work when you try to use them. At least I didn't encounter a game breaking bug but at the cost of everything else feeling as if it's going to collapse but it was sooo boring. I don't even know what they did but everything just feels so non conducive to a completed product. You can upgrade your nano suit using currency you get from killing the "ceph", which is neat but the upgrades are fairly boring. Weapon customization is present still I suppose and there is a much higher assortment of weapons to use which is nice. There is ACTUAL stealth killing but it makes the game almost too easy and kind of boring considering all you need to do is stay invisible and win. And the gunplay is fine but certain encounters have a seemingly endless amount of enemies and I became fond of just stealthing through areas on the edges of the map rather than actually engage with the game.
Story:
Haha whaaaaat. Alcatraz being silent doesn't really fit in considering everyone speaks to you directly. There's some cool concepts such as Alcatraz dying inside the suit, the Manhatten Virus and The Ceph but it's not really taken to the next level and then the game kind of ends? Okeiay.
Graphics:
I'd be lying if I said Crysis 2 looked good. The scenery and such actually does look decent but once you get close to anything it looks pretty nasty. I will admit tho, as a native New York City resident, I did recognize and identify with a lot of things I saw.
Sound:
Almost 0 memory of most of the audio. I remember they play music a bit too often and in unfitting scenarios.
Extra:
There is collectibles to find and I found them to be very silly and unncessary. They are all modeled after New York souveniers and such and that is cute but they are quite hard to find since they do not stand out from all the other props and rubble. I do enjoy the "Speeding Tickets" which is pretty funny but once again, they get lost in the experience since the design never emphasizes them ever.
Favorite Thing:
There's a scene where you have to just sit in a room while an NPC talks at you and there's a singular squid chilling in a tank. I thought that was funny so I pressed my face up against the glass only for it to be shot and explode and I screamed so loud in real life.
Not My Favorite Thing:
I love it when my guns alternate fire modes simply did not function. Very cool.
