5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
I was told by my old roommate once that Donkey Kong Country 2: Ape Double Time was one of the best platformers ever. And after checking it out I have to agree with him. For the most part at least. DKC2 feels like a great advancement in monkey technology. Levels feel designed better, bonus rooms have inidividual challenges to complete so you arn't just doing the same games over and over again, there is more gameplay mechanics and level gimmicks and overall just feels more like a total package. The save system is still kind of a bother and I didn't enjoy ONE specefic boss, but I really did enjoy almost everything the game presented to me. A great addition is the vendors on the map screen that give you hints or trivia for extra lives and overall just give you nice hints and bonuses for spending your hard earned coins. Although I didn't really appreciate how your coins would completely reset on a game over or a game reset, so if you're not playing on an emulator you better spend that shit as soon as you get it I guess. Finally, 100% wasn't painful in this installment but is actually required if you want to fight the real final boss which I'm not sure how I feel about because on one hand I enjoy the extra push to enjoy the entire game but I can't imagine every person would love that. But I did ! So.
Monke.
