3.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.

DKC3 feels like a game I played in a dream long ago. It's familiar...but different. Strange elements placed into something I expect to make it a foreign experience thats hard to put your finger on. Its definetely the odd one out amongst the games and that can be attributed to a lot of factors. No Donkey or Diddy, no jungle aestetic, overworld map with collectibles and a much simpler soundtrack. It's strange to DKC take such a radically different form after two installments but I actually like it for these differences. The Northern Kremisphere is a fun change from the hot jungle to a cooler northern taiga. Dixie and Kiddie Kong feel equally interesting now due to the big differences between them. The overworld map is fun to explore and discover secrets in. The only thing DKC3 lacks compared to it's two predecessors is that it lacks much variety. What I saw and did was fun, but by the time the credits rolled I felt like I saw less than previous games. Bonus rooms are still present and fun, but bonus overworld games are now changed to a single repeating game of a carnival stand with Cranky Kong which is fun maybe once. Despite it doing so much different, I find it difficult to say much about it besides its strange but fun. Not as fun as 2. And maybe just as fun as 1, but I dont really see myself replaying 3 as much as the others. Favorite Thing: The atmosphere and calmness while playing it late at night with my window open with a cool breeze rolling in. This only applies to me, I'm so sorry I even put this here but I can't think of anything else so that should tell you something. Least Favorite Thing: Soundtrack. The only tracks I remember are the map screen and chase / race music. That's it. I miss Kong Kollege. TLDR: Gameplay: Just as tight as usual, except now our two heroes are much more interesting with plenty of traversal variety and challenges. Story: It's a SNES platformer, no real story here. The environment is fun to explore and characters are fun to talk to with some occasionally interesting side quests. Graphics: The digitized 90's graphics of the cast and environments look good! Although certain enemies or NPC's can look a bit too strange for me. Sound: Possibly the most dissapointing part. The soundtrack is a significant downgrade from 1 and 2. Much less notable songs or interesting sound design. Although I laughed everytime I died as Kiddie and he goes "AAAAAAAAAAaaaa"
