5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

DKC Returns has been one of, if not my favorite platformer since its release. I played the demo with a friend at ComicCon in the late 2000's and got it for the Wii when it released. Although it was a tad too difficult for me as a kid and I quit at the Volcano. It wasnt until I picked up the 3DS version years later for me to fall in love with it. The best part about this game is how fun it is to move. Rolling, jumping and stomping is done so well and is more focused on speed based jumping challenges. The level variety is diverse with a ton of locales and unique level gimmicks. As well as the additional bonus temple stages and golden world which squeeze out even more content. It's also accessible for less experienced players with an easier mode but still keeping the originals difficulty. Getting 100% just requires you to get the KONG letters on each level but for completionists theres also mirror mode which provides a new way to play the game and bumps it up to 200%. And if you still want more content after that, you can do the time trials but those are a real doozy. But I like how this game has enough content to appeal for new players and full masters of DKC. I recommend 200%. Favorite Thing: DKCR has the best sound effect for stomping enemies Ive ever heard. I'm pretty sure it's at least a quarter of why I love the game so much. Least Favorite Thing: Can't think of anything I genuinly dislike or bothered me. It's fantastic. TL:DR: Gameplay: It's tight, fast-paced and satisfying. Its the most polished and refined DKC has been. There is always something going on in a level. Story: I think the Tiki Tong Tribe is the most interesting villains because theyre so strange but feels like they fit in so well. Im glad they retired K.Rool for this installment and went in a new direction. And theyre fashioned after instruments and have their own little songs! So cute. I hope they never bring them back so we keep getting new stuff. Graphics: I love the art design. Everyone is very cartoony and expressive as well as the levels. Sound: Sound design is executed great for a 3DS title and the soundtrack itself is also very good, even though it is mainly just remakes of original DKC songs. Extra: I fucking love murdering Tiki's
