2/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
TLDR:
:(
Gameplay:
Point and click action game. See an enemie, slo-mo, point, hold down left click. That's the video game. I hate games like this because I can't even accurately describe how boring it is and devoid of mental stimulation. I use the phrase "it's chips" a lot, and sometimes in a good context but F.E.A.R. 2 is like getting Lays Potato chips, opening up the bag to see it's mostly empty and THEN realizing you got reduced salt. They dumbed down the difficulty, seemingly removed the complexity of the A.I. and even removed the lean mechanic. So instead of a pretty deliberate tactical feeling shooter you really are just absuing slo-mo to point and shoot and it always works. It actually works so well that when they try to make an interesting enemy like the Mec Troopers or Psychic Ghosts it's more frustrating because your tactics don't change, but the enemy become a bullet sponge. Additionally, those mec and turret segments which are usually boring in shooters, are boring. This is even more of a point and shoot since you are basically invincible. And then the game just ends suddenly. Ok.
Story:
Man...I didn't need that ending in my life right now. There are a couple of cool concepts in F.E.A.R. 2 such as the creation of psychic commanders, your team being corrupted by Alma and the entire thing taking place in the blast radius of the original labs. But it mostly falls pretty flat. I'm pretty torn on "Snakefist" because he's supposed to be cringey and terrible so I kind of liked him but most of the time when he spoke I gagged.
Graphics:
Yah it's pretty good. F.E.A.R. was tame in it's visuals as it was mostly big office buildings and maitenence tunnels. But now the whole city is a war zone and you see a bunch of locations like a hospital, elementary school that turns into a lab, replica soldier labs, testing areas for psychic commanders. Lots of visual variety and level identity which the first did not have. Unfortunately not enough to make the game fun :(
Whenever you see something spooky or a enemy who uses cloaking the game uses a funky visual effect thay feels like your eyes forming a blind spot. I like that.
Sound:
I didn't notice a single thing about the sound except that your crew is a bunch of generic soldiers and they are voiced by generic soldiers except for Cortana voicing Stokes and Half-Life 2 Civilian voicing Keegan and it was strange and I never got used to it.
Extra:
This game has multi-player? Is that why the campaign is boring?
Favorite Thing:
I like how the beginning of this game has the characters perspectives on the ending to the first game.
Not My Favorite Thing:
"You're like free pizza at an anime convention. She can smell you. And she wants to consume you."
Hey man
Fuck you
