3.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of F.E.A.R..

TLDR: The Longest Monster Hallway Gameplay: One of the shooter-ist shooters I've ever seen. There is not much more to F.E.A.R. besides shoot. You walk down a hallway, enemies in the room. You shoot. Depending on your gun, you shoot different. Sometimes there are drones or a big robot. But mostly, dudes. That you shoot. You shoot and shoot and shoot and listen to dialogue and shoot and shoot and have a dream sequence and shoot and have one section where you ride an elevator and shoot and shoot and shoot and hit e and then the game is over. But is it fun shooting? Yes. The guns are fun. The slow-mo is fun and completely overpowered. The enemies have a pretty unique AI and will use tactics to fight you to keep it interesting when you are walking through the hallways. And you will be walking through many hallways. The level design isn't Half-Life, I'll tell you that much. There is very little to see and do in F.E.A.R. So even if the core gameplay is real good it can feel like an absurdly long game simply because you aren't doing anything new. I mean most of the game takes place in an office building Story: "YOU WILL BE A GOD AMONG MEN!" The story is interesting which is funny considering the whole thing is told through dialogue while you are walking through hallways that have nothing interesting happening. The most unqiue concept is the "Psychic Soldiers" all being controlled by a Psychic Commander (Fettel) as essentially a one man super army. That's cool and explains why you are fighting the same goons the entire game. Excluding the ATF. Graphics: It's got that old PC Shooter feel and I like it. Environments have a bunch of props which is awesome when you slow-mo into a bunch of soldiers and just witness the carnage. Also whenever you kill an enemy with a shotgun at close run they explode into a red mist and like two meat chunks plop out and it's always funny. Sound: There is essentially no music in this game. The sound effects are good tho and the voice acting is good. The Replica soldiers are almost as funny as the Combine in Half-Life 2. Whenever you do anything they all scream "OH SHIT" Extra: No extras really. You can find health boosters and reflex boosters. That's it. Favorite Thing: Gun that turns you into a skeleton Not My Favorite Thing: The scare sequences are not scary and just slow the experience down by being pretty cringe.
