2/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Halo Infinite.

TLDR: What a waste. A waste for the consumers but also for the developers and producers of it. What a waste of time, money and ideas for them. Halo Infinite started off super strong and felt like the beginning of a new era of Halo. Just for Microsoft or whoever to sit on the idea long enough for it to go stale. So close yet so far to what it could've been. Gameplay: Halo Infinite feels like a spin-off. A test of a new idea or formula that hasn't been completely polished just to see what could work and if a future would be thesible. While I think the open world formula is a neat idea, I do not think it is very good. The world for the most part feels empty and forgettable besides the scattered meaningless collectibles and the occasional firefight. Controlling an outpost is fun as well as some of the boss missions. The core gameplay and mechanics of Halo just do not allow for an engaging open world. Besides some negligible armor abilities that barely change up the gameplay, you traverse the world the same way during the entire game. The setting doesnt even change at all to even give you a barely nothing visual change to keep your attention a little bit. It's bare bones and starving for content. On it's own, I think it's at best a novelty. A cute little project to experience Halo in a new way. The best parts of the game are the actual main missions, every other aspect feels like a distraction. I wish that the developers would be get their bearings and make a full length mission based campaign because the glimmers of that here are fun. But they're too far and few. The shooting is fun, the enemies are fun (even though it's nothing new), the level design is good when they bother to try. It's a shame. The multiplayer fares a bit better but has a worse fate if you ask me. At launch it was bare bones. Not a lot of maps, the same couple of game modes and overall just a very obstrusive experience where the game forces you to play the games IT wants you to play rather than giving you the freedom to choose what you want to do. But I was able to excuse these things. I was even able to excuse the expensive shop items, battle pass and dissapointing customization. But as time went on it became increasinly apparant that the life support Halo Infinite desperately needed was coming in way too late and offered way too little. I would not be suprised if this is the last Halo we get before we just get occasional small spin-offs and strange B-titles that nobody asked for before it fades into obscurity. Story: I don't think you could 1-up the previous titles in story. And they certainly don't try. This plot is so far removed from what we know is relevant that it's easy to forget the context of things and what is really going on. The only semblances of intrigue I experienced during this was interactions between Chief and Weapon. And now I get to wait 10 years to see what she chooses as her name. If we ever get a sequel. I don't even think we're gonna get the DLC. Graphics: It looks good. But nothing outstanding or even very interesting. The visual design of the Spartans is cool but man it's not very customizable. Sound: Not much to note here besides some classic / remastered tunes making it in. Extra: Meaningless collectibles scattered around the world made up of documents about boring things that don't matter. Favorite Thing: The very beginning of it's life was a beautiful and great time in my life. And that's all over now. Not My Favorite Thing: The eternal dissapointment.
