2.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Lethal Company.
TLDR:
Flavor of the Week
Gameplay:
Lethal Company is good for a laugh, not for a game. You play Lethal Company to explore spooky hallways and industrial buildings. You do not play Lethal Company for the quotas and the upgrades. I don't really know how this genius idea was bogged down by a fairly teidous gameplay loop, but it has been and it harms the product immensely. You'll likely play on the same moons repeatedly for their low cost / low risk. It can take some investment to see the rarer content, which can all be ripped away from you in an instant and really doesn't have much of an incentive besides endlessly raising quotas. So the issue is that you want to play the game, but you want to experience the funny scaries. But when you try to really play the actual designed game the way it was intended to be played, the funny scaries become frustrating. Especially if you die extremely early to quicksand or something and just have to watch everyone in silence. Also some hazards are complete nonsense. If there's a flood warning or really any kind of weather hazard, just don't even bother going. It's a fun time, but a counter-intuitive game. I only write this review because R.E.P.O. has piqued my curiousity and looks like it has much more potential.
Story:
Collect trash for the 'company'. The company is a spooky and ominous tentacle in a giant wall. I really like that. Fail your quota, be blasted out to space. Pretty simple.
Graphics:
Lethal Company looks pretty bad. It does have a low-poly, low detail style that sort of works but some aspects of it just look weird. The animations for the employees especially are just so jank. And I guess that's on purpose but it's worth mentioning.
Sound:
Not much to note besides the cool effects done on the proximity chat.
Extra:
Nothing is extra. It's all extra.
Favorite Thing:
The hilariously timed tragic death of a colleague
Not My Favorite Thing:
The hilariously timed tragic death of myself
