5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Monster Hunter: World.

TLDR: This is my favorite game of all-time. I could play it, restart it and grind it probably til the end of time. It's no wonder this is Capcom's best-selling game. Gameplay: Monster Hunter World's gameplay is a back-board shattering slam-dunk. The game has 14 weapons to choose from. All have variety and deep mechanics to learn from. You could be a one-size fits all Longsword main (get in line) or a jack-of-all trades who takes a nibble out of every weapon. That's what I did on my most recent playthrough and I believe it's the best way to play Monster Hunter now. I am never running out of fights to get better at or something to chase. Combat is MEATY. Monsters have spectacular movesets that feel polished and engaging. There's a large number of monsters to fight too, there's always something new to challenge you. Even after the credits roll TWICE, the Guiding Lands are there for your infinite entertainment. And the first monster they toss for you is ZINOGRE. The amount of feedback the player recieves is fantastic, as that is probably one of the bigger complaints present in the previous MH games. But the best thing Capcom did with this title, is making it a WORLD. Every map is densly populated and full of life, with a story to be found in every corner. There's so many creatures to capture, areas to explore and things to do. 600+ hours in and I'm discovering things I've never even heard of before. Monster Hunter World has been done for a while now, but I still think that Capcom handed us a real life Meat Platter with this game. It's a all-inclusive, all-out, all-you-can-eat buffet. And brother, I never get full. Story: Moster MH games has stories told through NPC's telling you what's going on rather than you actually experiencing it. It's kind of just excuses to have you fight the next monster. Now we actually have a story on the forefront with big cutscenes, characters and development. Well I guess Monster Hunter 4 did it first. And honestly they did it just as well. Graphics: Monster Hunter World still looks phenomenal. I cannot imagine how much work, passion and inspiration went into creating these environments, flora and fauna to make them feel like a cohesive living world. Armor, weapons and characters look fantastic. I enjoy running around the base in my gear, hearing it clink and shift around like I am really wearing big ass stuff. I love the massive differences in look that each locale has, paired with different areas located within. The snow physics in Iceborne activate my neurons. And at 60 FPS, I feel like I'm really there. Also I want to eat the food so bad. Sound: A+ sound. Perfect sound effects. Sound design that characterizes the monsters. Top-notch music. And I can't get enough of those environmental sounds of the world chirping and whirring around you as you complete your next hunt. The Teostra track also hits hard for some reason here. Extra: There's a lot of extra things to do (Mostly hunts) that will bolster your playtime to hundreds of hours. Paired with a decent amount of non-hunting content to give you a break here and there, you could very well play this game for countless hours without getting bored. Favorite Thing: Hammer. Not My Favorite Thing: The exclusion of Zamtrios, while reasonable, has always been a personal offense.
