1.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
TLDR:
Ykno I don't even care anymore
Gameplay:
I got Welcome Tour cause I thought it'd be just easy to consume fun but what I found was actually a slow slog with occasional intrigue. Walk around a giant Switch 2 + accessories. Read "insights" about it's design and creation! And then, take quizzes? Yah, don't just absorb the information in an fun way. Just read up on some shit and then take a quiz to fill out that checkmark. And there is so many quizzes. At first they are actually pretty interesting and fun but by the end it's just agonizing to get through it all. I wish the mini-games / tech-demos gave you the same info the quiz gives you but delivers it in a fun way. (Sort of like Astro's Playroom) but almost all the mini-games are about using the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and experiencing the "HD Rumble". More than half of the mini-games and tech demos are dedicated to this. At first you think, oh I'm in the Joy Con area, so I get the joy-con mini-game! Wrong. They're all joy-con mouse mini-games. Why not have a motion control driving game for the wheel? Why do I need to use the mouse controls and tilt 😭. The tragedy is that these are pretty fun mini-games but they utilize my least favorite method of challenge. Time challenges. So many of the completion requirements for mini-games are time requirements and I genuinely do not like that. I think it's a cheap way to make you play the same thing over and over again. And when you're dealing with the mouse controls / motion controls it can be very frustrating to get through. I did all the quizzes. I did all the tech demos. Did all the stamps. But the mini-games just lose me because I'm not really having fun. I'm just doing finnicky Wario-Ware challenges to earn medals. I did have fun learning about the Switch 2 and I do think it's a pretty astounding piece of machinary but the way this game was made is just a mess.
Story:
You will CONSUME. And you will LIKE IT.
Graphics:
Graphically, the game looks very good. Clear and detailed picture. Especially on the giant Switch 2 which is incredibly detailed. However the art design is pretty soulless. It's almost like that corporate art style that's been meme'd to death. What happened to the miis? Just make next-gen miis why don't you? Then maybe we can play as our own Mii in these mini-games instead of being a faceless mouse cursor.
Sound:
Nothing of interest at all.
Extra:
I see no purpose to do any of this extra content. I also see no purpose in getting this game to be frank. I had some high hopes in the beginning but the game is just not fun at the end of the day.
Favorite Thing:
My Joy-Con really did feel like it had a big rubber ball in it tho...
Not My Favorite Thing:
The logo for this game a generic walk cycle of a some shiloutted dude that is almost ripped directly from those horrible memes of people summarizing media plots using stock images and gifs and shit.
