3.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Peglin.

TLDR: This game is NOT about a goblin having intercourse with someone using a strap-on, I've had to explain this to people TWICE. Gameplay: Indie games these days just keep coming out with concepts I've never even dreamed of. Peggle but a turn-based rogue-like? Insanity. And it works out shockingly well. You deal more damage the more pegs you hit. There is an absurd amount of orbs and relics that completely change your attacks and playstyle. A decent variety of enemies and random events. And most importantly, a high likelyhood for things to get out of hand. Getting out of hand doesn't necessarily mean an easy win though. Peglin can feel as if it hinges on luck sometimes. For example, some boards really suck, like BAD. The Slime Boss feels impossible half the time. Sometimes you never get the orbs you want, or the events you need. When something goes bad it can quickly snowball into REALLY bad. You never know when a Peglin run can end. Sometimes your board sucks. Sometimes your orbs come in on a bad order. Sometimes you just get hard countered by a boss. You never know until it happens. But it is an overall fun play. It is fun to watch your orb bounce around like a maniac, racking up points and then launching at an enemy. And maybe that's all you need. Story: Complete lack of a story. From what I can tell there is 0 reason why anything is occuring in this game. I will use this section however to talk about the total lack of tutorial / direction when beginning the game. Peglin bombards you with a bunch of symbols and stats that do not make sense, and all I could do was play enough until it made sense. It was quite frustrating to start playing in this way, but I did learn somewhat quick. Graphics: Something about Peglin does look a bit cheap. Maybe it's the lack of motion / animation in the sprites. In fact, it's probably that. But at least the boards and orbs look good. Sound: Not too special besides being very catchy. Especially that main theme that is used a bunch in the beginning area. Also the Castle Battle theme RIPS. Extra: It doesn't feel like there is a lot to see in Peglin besides the orbs. There is only three areas to experience. Each area has 3 bosses (some of which suck incredibly hard), and there is 3 classes to unlock. Favorite Thing: Bouldorb go BRRRRRRR Not My Favorite Thing: There's a moment in almost every boss where the game tells you to go fuck yourself.
