3.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Sniper Elite 5.

TLDR: She elite my sniper til I five. Gameplay: More of Sniper Elite 4. Except the level design is not as good. I remember there being a lot of set-pieces in 4, each level revolving around one. But 5 doesn't seem to have that. Instead the levels are just...levels. The most interesting thing I recall from the campaign is the last level where the air raid horns will sound around every minute and can be used as a sound mask. They needed more gimmicks like that. Cause as it is I just played a bunch of levels that didn't really have much to do with each other and not much was that different between them besides the architecture. A big gripe I had in this same vein was that the loading screen when you launch the game on console is a shot of ally soldiers storming normandy, so I was getting pretty excited for the idea of playing a D-Day level where maybe you are supporting the troops by sniping important targets from afar or maybe sneaking behind enemy lines. But that mission doesn't even happen, you go somewhere else while probably the most important part of WW2 happens without you. Two new additions in this game. You can go non-lethal and pacify enemies instead of killing them. Additionally, you can see small anecdotes about the targets you scope out...somehow? So you get this moral itch in your brain about wether you're going to dome the dude who draws cute cariacatures for his whole squad that they all send back to their loved ones back home from 400m away with a high powered sniper rifle. Or just make him go night night. Except...these targets are nazis? It's extremely odd for a game to humanize nazis in such a way. Meanwhile in games like Uncharted it's like "KILL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR MERCENARIES WITH A ROCKET LAUNCHER". At least the anecdotes are pretty funny to read. Other small additions include an active reload and skill points which are both equally worthless. And that's the game. Just Sniper Elite 4 but a little boring. Story: From it's first cutscene, I knew this story was gonna be so ignorable. Genuinely worthless story. Cutscenes, characters, plot, all nothing. There is a hint of intrigue on what Kraken is in the earlier levels, especially that tease in the Spy Academy with the Germans teaching each other how to be American. Karl literally says "Is Kraken not a weapon?" So I was interested in what it could be and then it just ended up being some fucking bomb or something. Who cares. Graphics: Looks good. Graphically nothing to note but I will note that some of the architecture in levels are really beautiful. Big ups to the Spy Academy. Sound: "You're lucky I was feeling non-lethal" HAHA WHAAAAT HOW DID NOBODY DECIDE TO AXE THAT LINE. There is lots of lines like this too. The music is fine. The sound design is pretty good. The voice acting is ass but whatever. Extra: If you want to suck the fun out of something fast, try to get all the collectibles in a Sniper Elite game. A completely miserable experience as you are just checking things off a list instead of finding interesting things. I gave up very quickly and I suggest you do the same. Upon posting this review I immediately went and 100%'d the game because I couldn't stop myself. Still wasn't worth it. Favorite Thing: That one stressed out soldier who had a psychic inform him of his impending doom from a sniper bullet Not My Favorite Thing: That it's not titled Sniper Elite V.
