4.5/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3.
TLDR:
This is the first video game I've ever played. This may be a biased review but I don't think so.
Gameplay:
Driving and I'm speeding and I'm vigorously failing these jumps. Mario 3 was the first one to do the map screen, and it ended up being way more than just a simple level select. There are overworld hazards, shortcuts to find, levels to skip. It's very impressive and allows for great replayability. The actual levels are also super solid, a bit short but that's just the NES level design for you. But there is so much variety between levels and more importantly, between worlds. Desert, Water, GIANT, Pipe worlds. Giant World is something they gotta bring back because I think it's a fun gimmick. And when you reach the final world, when the game is finally starting to drag, it's a short but challenging one. One of the best 2D Mario's IMO. Now onto complaints, half of the power-ups are way too rare. The Frog Suit, Hammer Suit and Tanooki Suit are too scarce and not good enough to warrant that. Which is unfortunate cause I really like the idea of the Frog suit but it is not that good.
Story:
The Princess isn't even kidnapped in this one, what's th-ope nevermind. There she goes.
Graphics:
I like the colors. I like the sprites. I like the backgrounds. I really like the dancing hills on the overworld screen.
Sound:
I hope you like the Athletic theme. Cause that's what you're gonna get. It's better than Mario 2 at least.
The GBA version has the voice acting which is still funny and this game also has the most satisfying stomp sound effect. It go clop.
Extra:
I mentioned the great replayability but I also want to mention that you can 100% the game by doing every stage. It's not too hard. Except for that one stage.
Favorite Thing:
Dancing Hills :)
Not My Favorite Thing:
World 6 Level 7 is so fucked up, there is no way you can do that level without inviting a method to hold down the B button and mashing A at the same time. Such a fucked up move on Nintendo's part.
