2/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of The Mummy: Demastered.

TLDR: I hate these types of games. It's like the advertising team for the movie had some extra budget and just hired somebody to make a mediocre experience. This game has almost zero charm or inspiration. But I feel like people will be quick to defend it because it's attached to a dogshit movie. I may be a bit too hard on it because it can be fun and it is cheap. But still, it's not enough. Gameplay: It's a Metroid game with no spin or care put into it. Level design is barren. Enemies are generic and frustrating to deal with. Bosses take way too long to kill and become boring fast. The game just ends with a shitty little escape sequence and it's all over. Nothing is really worth exploring, especially when your entire world is just hallways with random platforms and enemies scattered about. It feels like this game is entirely made up of minor liminal areas meant to take you from one major location to the next. I was endlessly waiting for the moment where the game got serious and threw me something that really made me feel like a human designed it but it never came. At least the weapons are different. Although combat is finnicky because every enemy is too small for you to hit and you need to get that correct angle which is easier said that done with janky movement, knockback and erratic enemies. There's also a weird shoe-horned Souls-esque death mechanic where you become zombified after death and have to kill your old body to get your shit back. Which is almost cool but does not feel like it fits. I would've prefered just a checkpoint restart. Story: Chase after Mummy Lady. We will mark out the locations on the map and after 4 times the game will end. There isn't any build up or development of any kind, just GO and KILL. Pat on the back for KILLING. GAME ENDS. Graphics: Game actually looks pretty good. I wish there were more intricate designs to make things pop more because the visual design is super basic. Sound: The best thing about this game is the music. The synth-wave soundtrack is possibly the only real draw to this game. And even though the use of synth is overused (and was probably only done bcuz it's popular and not because its part of the Mummy Identity) it's really good. Extra: Extra rooms scattered around the map with extra items and collectible relics. You can beat this game reliably with none of these things and you dont really get anything for getting them all so it's purely optional. Favorite Thing: The soundtrack. Not My Favorite Thing: Bland. Talking about this is soul-sucking because it's so heartless.
