4/5 ★ – Kalle_Deimos's review of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
TLDR:
What a great game! I will never play it again.
Gameplay:
Choice heavy, story rich, gameplay as shallow as a puddle. I know Geralts whole thing is two swords but only being able to use two swords with the same exact moveset for the entire game is grating. The spells are a little better but mainly in the same boat but at least there's a reason to use certain spells for certain enemies most of the time. The RPG mechanics is the exact thing that people make fun of. All negigible percentage changes you will never remember. "Increase Adrenaline gain by 1%", get the fuck out of here. The equipment is equally as guilty. The crafting mechanics, I absolutely hated. I felt they were tacked on and ingredients were too frequent and too obscure to take note of and use properly. So what's good about this game? Well, the quests. Every single one of them. They're amazing and put most other RPG's to shame. Full of choices, intrigue and consequences to your actions. Your actions really feel like YOUR actions. The outcomes you get are the outcomes you earned yourself. Quests are thought-proving and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep them interesting. You PLAY as a Witcher. When an NPC's tells you that something is eating their store stock, you don't just find the creature immediately and kill it. You need to talk to people, get clues, figure out WHAT the thing is, where it is and how to find it. You are such an active role in the game instead of being a goon with a weapon. And it's really impressive. I don't blame them for letting the gameplay fall by the wayside if that meant they can make the quests and storylines THIS good. Yeah, the combat is really boring but at least it isn't broken or unfair...
Story:
Great one-off stories for quests and the like. I don't really remember too much of the main quest honestly except for the ending which has some pretty standout scenes such as getting crunk with your fellow Witchers. Geralt is cool. The love triangle is cool. Woo.
Graphics:
Lookin' good! That's all I really got. The game just looks really good. I really enjoyed customizing Geralt to my preferences and tried out many of the available hairstyles and beard styles.
Sound:
Amazing voice acting. Great soundtrack.
Extra:
It's an RPG, so much is extra. I played this game several years ago and I only really have a lot to say about the gameplay. Sorry.
Favorite Thing:
The very end of the last DLC has been stuck in my head for years.
Not My Favorite Thing:
Oh boy! More drowners...
