4.5/5 ★ – Karlosius's review of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2.
The definitive THPS experience
The best remakes are the ones that play the way your nostalgia-clouded memory thinks they originally did - and I think this is the perfect example of that
My fondest memories of gaming as an 11 or 12-year-old were overnight sessions of THPS2 with friends; finding the secret area in Hangar for the first time, hours of graffiti on School II, desperately trying to ollie over the magic bum in Venice
We were never in the skate scene, and to this day I've never set foot on a board, but I'll always love the culture - and that's in large part due to THPS
So for Vicarious Visions to have come out and absolutely nailed this, especially after the slew of disappointments over the last decade or so, is an absolute wonder
Controls feel tight, the soundtrack is elevated with new additions and there's an insane amount of replayability through hundreds of challenges, gaps to hit and gear to unlock. All this, and more, make THPS1+2 the perfect package
What a shame then that we'll probably never get a VV-led remake of THPS3, 4 or the Underground games
*sigh* Thanks, Activision
