4.5/5 ★ – Krypt2k's review of Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.

This is a pretty cool western FPS game. Has a great story of a guy named Silas Greaves who tells his story whilst simultaneously playing along with it. What's cool is sometimes he will exaggerate his story so you will end up backtracking and playing the same events but with different (and proper) scenarios. It's a decent story that introduces some popular and familiar names from that time era. The gameplay is very fast paced with an arcadey style element to it, offering points for how you kill enemies. For example, blowing them up with an explosive barrel, hitting a clean headshot with a rifle or using your concentration mechanic which allows you to go into slow motion and hit as many targets as you can before your concentration ends. This makes the gameplay fun and addicting and to me, it never gets tiresome. You will also end up in an occasional stand off with enemies, what's interesting is that you will be rewarded for not cheating during that stand off. If you decide to whip out your gun and shoot your enemy too early, that would be considered too dishonest and cowardly and thus, losing you certain points which I think is a pretty cool feature to add. At the end of each mission, you will be rewarded with skill points to upgrade weapons and gunplay and this enhances your overall gaming experience. Art direction is pretty sweet too. It reminds me a lot like Borderlands, with it's cell-shaded visuals. Even with introducing certain characters to the story, they appear in a 'comic strip' type of graphic just like Borderlands. It's cool and pretty unique for a western styled game. I would recommend giving this a try. It's a short game, but ultimately worth your time.
