3.5/5 ★ – Krypt2k's review of Doom 3.
Here's what I liked about DOOM 3. It was a scary dark game, pact with threatening enemies. Lots of long narrow corridor's that are pitch black, and full of jump scares. It's a good game with plenty of horror elements to keep you on your toes. I loved the variety of weapons that were all very well balanced and useful in most situations. I loved the designs and the sounds of them, especially the plasma gun. It was like music to my ears.
The amount of different creatures that lurk in this space facility is hair-raising. You never know what you're going to walk into. The zombies are fairly easy to kill as they're slow and can only attack you with their fists, but those sneaky schmuck's always hide in tight compact corners and sometimes they always come out and surprise me. There's imps. Those things throw fireballs at you and can be rather dangerous in groups. Wraiths, that are very fast moving and will normally deal a great bit of damage before you can even react and those aren't even the worst of it. There are also a lot of boss fights to tackle, and although they normally take a great deal of firepower to kill, I found them to be fairly easy. Only because I didn't play on the hardest difficulty and I probably won't, only because I can imagine how much of a head-throb it would be.
Now in between all the action and slaying creatures, comes with a lot of walking. Walking to point A and then point B, and then opening this door and opening that door, turn power on, run all the way back to elevator and repeat. It's really tedious and kills the tension a little bit for me. The maps have a lot of corridor's and a lot of doors and sometimes it's easy to get lost.
Still a good game and I would recommend it for the horror factor.
