3.5/5 ★ – LLCoolRunnings's review of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.

Donkey Kong Country 3 is the Final Fantasy II of the Donkey Kong series. Its reputation precedes it, and everyone really wants you to believe that the game is bad because... all the levels have a unique gimmick? But that's cool, though! They all get their moment to shine, and I think it makes this game probably the most consistent one in the series from start to finish, even though it doesn't reach the highest highs of the first 2. The biggest problem that I have with this game is its ultimately underwhelming soundtrack. There are some standouts for sure, but I'd say for the most part, it's the equivalent of monkey elevator music. The boss themes in particular are simply... nothing. There's no drive, no tension, it really makes the fights feel underwhelming, and fall a little flat, which is unfortunate because I think a lot of the fights themselves are pretty creative (for better or worse). The worlds are set up so that they never overstay their welcome, especially towards the end. Where I felt like the end of Diddy's Kong Quest would never come, as soon as I arrived at Kaos Kore, I could see the light at the end of tunnel and knew what I was working towards. So overall, no, it's not my favorite Donkey Kong Country game, and yes, I'd say it's probably 3/3 on that list. But it's still a really fun time and definitely worth playing if your a fan of even one of the other two. And Kiddy Kong is fine, grow up.
