1/5 ★ – LLCoolRunnings's review of WWE 2K25.

I don't know, I think the first thing I'd want to do when making a wrestling game, or any game really, is make sure actually playing it is fun? The WWE 2k games are, at their core, designed around a normal one on one match experience. Playing literally any other match type is a chore, and any of the game's "story modes" are going to require you to do some bullshit. Want to unlock Tamina as a playable character? Have fun winning a whole ass Money in the Bank ladder match while also accomplishing the arbitrary, ridiculous goals we put in it!! Playing these games sucks, but thankfully that's not usually why I pick them up. I like creating things: arenas, attires, or brand new original wrestlers from scratch, and simulating tournaments and matches. I've been like this since No Mercy on the N64, and these games have been pretty good about delivering in those areas for me. But it's just too much this year. The Showcase mode is bullshit and there are good characters locked behind it. MyRise has never been interesting, and they always love to throw you into frustrating multi-man matches. The Island is a trash mode spun off from MyFaction, which is a poison to the game and a blatant cash grab. MyFaction is continuously updated with new persona cards, alternate attires and models of wrestlers from different times in their careers. But if you want them all, you have to commit your life and wallet to playing this mode, and I can not stress enough how bad playing this game sucks. Later Persona cards will require you to have acquired cards that were only available in previous timed events, or you'll just miss out on them. So it's fine, just don't unlock them, right? We'll sure, but then you have an already bloated roster list that's full of nonsense entries, just a sea of "???????" as you scroll through to find the wrestler you're looking for. Characters you can never unlock because you weren't playing the game for a random week 2 months ago. I've just had it. The game is ugly, it's messy and full of trash. They continue to double down on squeezing every last cent out of their customers while their game can barely hold itself together. Contant crashes and bugs being fixed by updates that cause new bugs. I'm out, I can't do it anymore. It's a truly joyless experience, lacking any kind of soul or love for professional wrestling. I wish them the best on their future endeavors.
