5/5 ★ – Lammy's review of Bloodborne.

Bloodborne + The Old Hunters DLC post-Childhood's Beginning review: Welcome, good hunter. Bloodborne is a wonderful Soulslike game by FromSoft, and oh man it's easily the best one I've played so far. Your character is a Hunter, sent to the city of Yharnam to kill people afflicted by the Plague of Beasts. On your adventure, you will not only slay horrifying monsters but also uncover the cause of the plague, tying into an abusive church, a sinister scientific community and alien gods. The combat is a more aggressive variant of standard Souls fare, with shields and armor replaced with guns and careful dodging. I found my learning curve much shorter on this one. It's definitely harder than Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 & 2 but I found myself fitting the game flow much better this time around. The setting is awesome as well; Yharnam is warped and illogical, like it's somewhere between a dream and reality at all times. The Old Hunters DLC is also incredible, telling a story of the guilt felt by the people who got Yharnam into this mess as they are trapped in a nightmare by the weight of their sins. This is one of the best games I've played, and earned its role as a system seller for the PS4. It's a shame it's not out on anything that ISN'T PS4 or PS5 but if you own these consoles you owe it to yourself to play it. 10/10
