3.5/5 ★ – Lammy's review of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Burst Forth!! Choro-gon☆Breath DIRECTOR'S CUT.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon ☆ Breath post-plat review: That's a title and a half right there. Based on the wonderful manga and anime, Choro-gon Breath is a vertical screen bullet hell shoot-em-up taking place entirely in Fafnir's cursed PC. There's like, a bit of plot, but the main thing you're playing the game for is the shmup gameplay and a bit of mostly tame fanservice. There are 6 levels, each based on a different game genre, where you play as Tohru, Kanna and Elma and use their unique shots to defeat enemies, dodge bullets and rack up a high score. The game is VERY short, with a full run of all 6 levels taking maybe an hour if you're a bullet hell novice, but you'll be playing through the levels multiple times to grab everything. This repeat playing does get repetitive, but it also helps you optimize your run and improve; I have very little shmup experience and even I was able to no-hit every level (on Normal difficulty) by the end of my time with the game. While clearing levels, you will also collect treasures and art pieces that reference the series or appeared as manga covers, plus a few exclusive pieces drawn specifically for the game. Visually the game is mostly alright, though the game's presentation of story dialogue on the side of the screen mid-level meant I couldn't both shoot/dodge and take it in at the same time. I'd probably call this a decent bullet hell when all is said and done. It's tough enough to keep me engaged while still being accessible for noobs like me, the story is alright, and I enjoyed spending time with the characters even if the whole picture is limited. This is getting a pretty good 7/10, though I do caution those who aren't avid Dragon Maid or shoot-em-up fans to wait for a sale.
