3.5/5 ★ – LengthOfTwine's review of HITMAN.

This is the first game in the Hitman franchise that I've played, so I have nothing else to compare it to. I really enjoyed Hitman (2016), though it absolutely is not without its share of flaws. The missions are satisfying and feel varied in both setting and method of execution (no pun intended). I found myself having to modify my typical strategy between the Paris mansion, filled with small rooms and hiding spots, and the open-air para-military compound in Colorado, due to the subtle changes in line-of-sight and guard patterns. The scripted kills are almost always comically creative, and going for kills that will be ruled an "accident" usually ended up being the most fun (and humorous). My main issues come with how guided the contracts can be. While yes, you don't ~have~ to use the opportunity trackers, I found some of the opportunities to be so obtuse that I couldn't imagine playing some of them for the first time without the trackers to guide you. I don't really blame the developers for putting this in there and I really appreciate that it's optional, but maybe if the guidance on completing an opportunity wasn't so specific and hand-holding, I would have felt a bit better about it. Otherwise, any other issues the game, while sometimes immersion-breaking (every French person at the French mansion speaks perfect English with either an American or British accent), are usually just funny and don't take away from the complete experience that much. Definitely going to continue on with the series from this point. Might even go back to some of the older games and see what they're like. Hitman (2016) is worth playing if you get the opportunity.
