5/5 ★ – LikeToBeBossy's review of Split Fiction.
Out of all the games I have ever played, I think Split Fiction might be the most creative one. At first I thought it was just a mix of fantasy and sci-fi, but it turned out to be so much more. Every level felt unique, like I was playing 100 games in one. The gameplay variety and mechanics were incredible. The game kept surprising me. It was never boring for even a second. Visually, it’s also stunning.
The story was okay. Personally, I connected more with It Takes Two emotionally, but when it comes to gameplay, Split Fiction is on another level. I also liked the humor in the game. For example, there is a level where you play as a sausage, and I thought that was so funny.
I also really appreciated the accessibility options, like reduced damage and the skip to next checkpoint. I played the game with my mom, who’s not that used to these kinds of games, and those features helped us a lot. Split Fiction is much harder than their previous game It Takes Two. At least for non gamers.
I do wish more people could experience this game. Coop only makes it hard for solo players to find a partner to play the game with. And most people don’t wanna play with strangers, which I can fully relate to. An AI companion could be a great solution for future games like this, if that would be possible.
Honestly, I think every gamer should try this. It’s pure fun and creativity like I’ve never seen before. Hazelight continues to surprise me, and I can confidently say that for now, Split Fiction is my Game of the Year for 2025.
