3.5/5 ★ – Lord_Hazenberg's review of The Outer Worlds.

While still fun, Outer Worlds feels very empty when it comes to content. It took me around 24 hours of playtime to beat the main story, every quest I came across, & reach max level. Which is understandable since this is a AA game hence the positive rating. Most quests are either; pick thing up, shoot thing, or talk to thing. There’s no point in exploration outside of quests as the maps are quite small. Gunplay feels good with a bullet time mechanic in place of VATS. Firefly is an obvious inspiration for a lot of the style, squadmates, & dialogue. Though out of the 6 possible teammates, only 1 stood out to me as an interesting character with that being the Vicar. The factions play no role in the ending outside of 1. Most choices are pretty black & white as well especially the ending sequence. So fans of Obsidian’s more “morally grey” writing such as New Vegas or KoToR 2 might be disappointed in that department. In conclusion, Outer Worlds is an above average-good game. What’s there is fun, but very little is actually there. It’s on Xbox & PC game pass so play it there if you have the ability, because I wouldn’t spend more than $20 on this game.
