4.5/5 ★ – LouisDeFran's review of Axiom Verge.
Many games claim to be of a Metroidvania style of play, but few come as close to the true feel of a Metroid game as this one. If you’re a Metroid enthusiast, this one is a must play. It has a great story, fun and simple combat system, a unique and inventive selection of weapons and abilities, and some pretty challenging puzzles to solve. All I’ll say is make good use of your address disruptor, as it will be your best tool in finding many of the clues needed to solve some of the games toughest riddles.
My only complaint about the game, and what prevented me from giving it a perfect score, is that the feature on the map that tells you whether or not you’ve found every item in a particular area is misleading. That is to say that the map uses purple and yellow dots to assure you that you’ve revealed 100% of a map’s area, and that you’ve found 100% of the items within that area. However, I learned after much Google searching that it is still possible that items could be hidden within an area, even though the map tells you that you’ve found them all. I could have finished the game much sooner had I known that.
