2.5/5 ★ – Luitenant_Gruber's review of Painkiller Hell & Damnation - City Critters.

*Warning: spoilers* Mediocre DLC for the main game. Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is a remaster of the first Painkiller game and its expansion: Battle Out of Hell. The game follows the same story line and mechanics, but offers a lot more content like challenge maps, a unique Halloween map and the introduction of co-op. It now runs on the Unreal Engine and looks fantastic. You can clearly see that this is a game of the new millennium. Some stages are not available until you buy them as DLC, the same goes for the Tarot cards and skins. And speaking of DLC, this game has a ton of it. You never have the feeling that you have a complete game because you miss some random DLC. The only game that I know of that is worse than this, is Borderlands 2 with its million pieces of DLC. The first DLC I completed was Painkiller Hell & Damnation - City Critters. It is just a extra mission with unique enemies and a new enviroment. I thought this DLC was kind of boring, because the level consists of a large, empty, concrete city with depressing graphics, generic "Fallout 3" zombies and a lame soundtrack. It did not offer that much in terms of innovation and the game would be fine without it. In the end, I still think Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is a good game, just not as epic as the original game and its expansion. This is mainly because of the commercial vibe that this game has and the missing levels and enemies, but when playing, it still feels like Painkiller. Still recommend it though.
