2/5 ★ – LukorDaDragon's review of Subway Midnight.

Subway Midnight was a cute yet short 2hr experience. I had no expectation going into it and only knew of its very stylized art style. Which I think honestly calling this interactive art opposed to a game is far more fitting for what you will be getting. Having no HUD, no mechanics to learn or even save states in the game you just hit start and go. I appreciate anything that doesn't dwell on introduction too long and throws you straight into what you came for. Exploring each world with their own puzzles and adventure was interesting, but they left me wanting more. Just as I start getting into the vibe it leaves me hanging, feeling like there should of been another hour to the game. Each character has a special piece to the world it wants you to return to them but you are not forced to unless you want the "true ending". The true ending is where I think I lost interest and it's not because I didn't want to play it again. I was more than happy to give it another go. No, it was because once you start into the next playthrough there is no going back. No restarting from the top, no save files no nothing. So next time you boot up the game you are exactly where you left off the time before. That means if you miss a piece or don't solve a sequence properly you then have to play the remainder of the current run and then start again. It quickly turns 2hrs into most likely 6 with no new content past the first run. This to me felt unnecessarily tedious for what was otherwise a fun experience. Your only true option is to go into your PC and delete the save files manually. Now don't get it twisted I am not Le Epic Gamer that came from Fortnite to play a visual experience and expected deep gameplay with 360's and what not. I can appreciate an artistic game just as much as the next guy, however I just can't help myself to strive and see it all and when the game actively works against you playing it more then I am not a fan. The game has something to offer for a one and done experience but outside of that I can't say I would buy it full price. If you are into visual experiences with soft narrative and a tinge of horror then I would recommend Subway Midnight.
