4.5/5 ★ – Lunarnier's review of NieR: Automata.

This game was the one that opened my mind to different kinds of genres and stories. Before Nier automata, I enjoyed playing multiplayer games most of the time that required a lot of grinding and that I could feel myself getting stronger. Thanks to this wonderful game I have opened myself to try new things. I hate that this game is reduced to "sexy android that kills robots" most of the time. It is really frustrating because this game is beautiful. I quickly fell in love with the scenery and the setting. It hooked me from the start and I really cannot understand how a lot of people overlook this just because they can look at 2b's underwear. The combat is flashy and feels really good, but it does not have any depth whatsoever. Sure, you can make combos and implement weird tech, air juggle enemies like in Devil May Cry, but you don't really need to do that in order to beat the game. You can also just spam dodge to avoid any type of damage due to it having virtually 0 cooldown. But the important part is that it _feels_ really good to play. Soundtrack is beautiful, astonishing, magical, magnificent, there are really no other words to describe it. You can really feel like the music is telling a story without even playing the game. The story is amazing. I know a lot of people hate the idea of having to play the game again in order to fully complete it, but I find it really enjoyable. It is also not a matter of gameplay, but perspectives. Playing as 9s in the 2nd part of the game really gives you A LOT of insight. Him being a scanner typer that can hack stuff makes him naturally capable of finding out things he should not have... I considered giving it a 4/5, but that extra .5 is because of the way this game made me feel. What an enjoyable and beautiful journey.
