3/5 ★ – Madsines's review of Diablo Immortal.

This is an incredibly fun game, one of the best mobile games I've ever played. Unfortunately Diablo Immortal is let down by an egregious monetisation model, and a slow progression system that causes constant roadblocks, interrupting your story progression. The combat here is incredibly fun and satisfying, if a little mindless. It also controls and looks fantastic, especially for a mobile game. Unfortunately my biggest problem with the game was the progression system. I should note that I didn't actually fully beat the story here, however I did make it a significant way through before tapping out at level 44 (max level is 60). For the first 25 levels or so, progression is super fast and satisfying, but as the game goes on you're interrupted by constant roadblocks every few levels, requiring you to grind bounties or dungeons in order to progress with the story, often for hours. As someone who just wanted to beat the game, this was incredibly frustrating. That said, I feel like I have a good grasp of the overall gameplay here, and the remaining journey to max level would have been pretty much just more of the same repetitive, if enjoyable hack and slash gameplay. Overall whilst I enjoyed myself, I ultimately won't be investing any more time with Diablo Immortal. This was my first Diablo experience, and if anything this has just encouraged me to go back and play Diablo 3. I really enjoy the gameplay here, I just don't want any part of this free to play microtransaction model. Playtime: 14 Hours Platform: iPad Air 3
