4/5 ★ – Madsines's review of Dying Light 2 Stay Human.

Dying Light 2 isn't perfect, not even close. But it sure is a hell of a lot of fun. Of course the parkour is excellent, just like in the first game. It starts a little slow, but once you begin unlocking various skills it quickly improves and you can zip around the city with ease. The most impressive part of this game for me though is easily the world. The city area in particular is one of the coolest open world maps I've experienced in a long time. The level of detail and verticality is insane, with multiple massive skyscrapers filled with zombies, loot and secrets. The variety of open world activities is awesome. Whether you're sneaking through a GRE facility at night, climbing windmills or completing time trial parkour challenges, it's all fun and rewards you handsomely with XP and loot at every turn. Oh, and the combat is once again extremely satisfying, and only gets better as you unlock more skills and mods for your weapons. Story wise, it's pretty on par with the first game aside from the extremely anticlimactic ending that left me confused and underwhelmed. Generally though, while it's certainly not top tier the characters are pretty likeable, decently voiced and it's all backed up by an awesome soundtrack. So what didn't I like? Let's start with the bugs. Dying Light 2 certainly isn't the buggiest game I've ever played, but I did experience my fair share. Audio cut out multiple times in my playthrough forcing me to reload the game. I got stuck inside a wall, and so did the final boss. HUD elements would linger on my screen with no way to get rid of them, and occasionally the 'scan' feature which highlights various loot and waypoints would just not register, forcing me to mash R3 until it worked. Annoying for sure, but luckily I didn't experience anything game breaking. I have a few other nitpicks. It often felt like I was spending half my playtime trying to find the entrance to certain buildings or areas, and a little more clarity with some of the waypoints would have gone a long way. The final boss was shockingly bad, you can't run in certain settlement areas (did Techland go to the Rockstar school of game design in this aspect?). Finally, the checkpoint system can use some work. More than a few times I would slip and fall from a high place, killing me and losing me up to 20 minutes of progress. It's extremely frustrating to lose that much time to a tiny mistake. Some more forgiving checkpoints would go a long way. And that's it. Overall, I really liked this game and would say for the most part, it's an improvement on the first game in pretty much every way. Aside from some bugs and nitpicks, I definitely recommend this if you're after your next open world fix. Playtime: 30 Hours Platform: Xbox Series X
