2.5/5 ★ – MalcolmBoyd's review of Batman: Vengeance.
I really wanted to like this, but it just kept getting in it's own way. I'll start with the positives, the graphics were solid, the voice acting is obviously great, as it's mostly comprised of actors from BTAS and TNBA. The story is good, and the cutscenes and music are really good. Everything else kind of sucks. The game is visually very dark, so you've gotta crank the brightness to be able to see anything, but then it looks too washed out. The combat sucks, and you're constantly getting blocked by enemies, or spammed by gun wielding foes before you even have a chance to see them. The boss fights are all gadget based, which means they have to be fought in first person, which never feels right. The platforming is awful, sometimes you'll land on a platform and slip off, other times you won't even land on it at all, despite clearly getting enough height to land on it. I spent nearly 15 minutes on 1 platforming section where you have to jump between mushrooms, which shift around when you're on top of them. It was so inconsistent and so frustrating that I eventually looked up a walkthrough, assuming I was doing something wrong. But no. Sometimes the platforms just don't let you land on them. Awful.
The checkpoints are usually decent, but every so often you'll die and go back a solid 10 to 15 minutes, and that's never a good time, even in a good game!
Look, if you're a die hard Batman fan, and you love the animated series, you MIGHT get some enjoyment out of this, and it's pretty cheap. But if you're just looking for a good time? Avoid this one.
