4.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Disney's Aladdin.

While I played and enjoyed Capcom’s Aladdin for the SNES, I have to say that Virgin Interactive’s Genesis version is the clear winner of the console war here. Right off the bat I have to compliment something VI has done well in all their Disney games, the visuals. The character models look so distinctly Disney and the way the various character move and emote is wonderfully charming. Every enemy, animal, and sentient genie platform you encounter just feels so alive. The soundtrack is also excellent as to be expected. This game also really nailed the Goldilocks zone of difficulty. I found Virgin’s other Disney games (The Lion King and The Jungle Book) far too artificially difficult while in contrast I found Capcom’s Aladdin a bit too easy. Genesis Aladdin has some challenge but it feels far more balanced and rewarding to pull off. The levels had distinct themes and unlike the Capcom version they all specifically referenced a part of the movie (except the Genie’s World level, though Capcom also had a level like that which makes me think it might have been a deleted scene from the film or something). I’ve enjoyed playing through these Disney platformers over the last week, but this version of Aladdin is easily the best of the bunch.
