3.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Disney's Aladdin.
So unlike the other Disney platformers I played recently in which the SNES and Genesis versions were all made by Virgin Interactive, Aladdin had two completely different games made for the different consoles. This review is for the SNES version developed by Capcom.
Aladdin is definitely a good time. Unlike some of the other Disney platformers this one is very easy to pick up and play. There are definitely difficulty spikes here and there but this was still a MUCH easier game than The Lion King and The Jungle Book. Special props go to how Aladdin controls, particularly the acrobatics. Swinging from poles and jumping off enemies feels good and responsive. The levels were generally well designed with the Genie Lamp level being an easy highlight.
These highlights come at a bit of a cost however. The visuals of the game are fine but a deal bellow the standard of the other Disney games I’ve played recently. There was also a noticeable lack of cohesion with the film that the game is based on with levels that don’t represent any particular scene. Beyond this Aladdin himself also moves at a pretty sluggish pace, the game is more or less built around this but it took some getting used to.
This was a fun time at the end of the day. It felt a bit safe and didn’t have a whole lot that made it stand out from other Capcom platformers, but it’s easily the most approachable of these Disney platformers I’ve played so far.
