4.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.

Donkey Kong December ladies and gents. If you want to know why I’m not giving this legendary game a perfect score it’s because I hate that bouncy snake with a passion and levels where you play as him were awful. Could be a skill issue but I’m blaming the snake. Aside from that this game is outstanding. The visuals, level design, music, and controls are all top notch. Everything feels fluid and the game does an excellent job of easing you into a new mechanic and gradually building on it as the level progresses. While the first DKC had a few cool ideas that it reused regularly, DKC2 just keeps throwing new ideas at you throughout the whole game. On top of this building the game design around the more agile Diddy was a fantastic idea and lead to much more of a kinetic feel, while the addition of Dixie provided some great traversal additions. I’m probably being petty by not giving this game a perfect score but man Toxic Towers really had me raging. The game is challenging throughout but it always felt fair right up until that level. If you’re like me and have put off playing this game too long do yourself a favor and get on that now.
