3.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Frogger's Journey: The Forgotten Relic.

Gotta say, this game took me by surprise. When I reviewed Temple of the Frog not too long ago I said the gameplay was fun but the game itself was way too short. Well The Forgotten Relic is basically exactly what I was looking for. It has the same fun tile based gameplay but now it actually feels like a full length game. They also add a few power ups you get throughout the adventure which helps to enhance the level design. Some of them are duds but the grapple hook and shield get some very fun and surprisingly challenging sections themed around them. Boss fights were also consistently creative and really had me sweating a time or two. The game also tries a lot harder to have a story and implement elements of RPGs into the fray with mixed results. I appreciate the attempt to build up a supporting cast like other mascot platformers, but grinding the game to a halt to make you run around the hub area and talk to a dozen NPCs was definitely the low point of the game. Really glad I gave this one a shot because I really didn’t know anything going into it. I’d feel comfortable calling this a “hidden gem” in the GBA’s library.
