2.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Gargoyles Remastered.

I’m honestly really confused by this game’s existence. Was anyone asking for a remaster of the Genesis Gargoyles game? I have a theory that some guy in the games industry loved this game as a kid and had just enough pull to make this happen. The game isn’t bad, but it isn’t really good either. It’s got that old game difficulty but without the precision to back it up. Goliath often feels too floaty and doesn’t always interact with surfaces in a consistent way. This was most evident with the swinging sections which felt incredibly inconsistent. As a big fan of the TV show I was a bit let down by the lack of characters. Goliath is the only playable character and besides him the Metal Clan and Demona are the only other characters from the show that make an appearance. I can somewhat understand the original game lacking this content, but I feel that a remaster was the perfect time to add others like Brooklyn and Hudson to the game. As it stands the remastering of this game doesn’t go further than updating the visuals and adding a rewind. Despite me being pretty harsh in this review I didn’t hate my time with Gargoyles. The visuals are excellent (both the remastered look modeled after the show and the original 16-bit design) and the music is also quite good. Some of the boss fights were also a lot of fun. The levels all feel distinct from each other and there’s a good enemy variety. I only wish so many of the enemies weren’t damage sponges. All in all Gargoyles is the definition of mediocre. There’s enough I like to prevent me from calling it bad, but enough I don’t to stop me from calling it good.
