3.5/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Golden Sun.

Right out the gate I’m not a big JRPG fan, but the fact that I still enjoyed this one should tell you that fans of the genre will have a really good time. The visuals are great, the music is solid, the dungeons are shockingly fun, and the combat is really fun to master. The Djinn system in particular was a lot of fun and gave a good level of strategy to the more challenging fights. The story was solid but nothing to write home about. My only real negatives are the large amount of mindless random encounters and the dialogue. Often this really drags the pacing down. The game is at its best when it’s focusing on challenging battles and tricky puzzles, which is probably why Crossbone Isle was my favorite part of the game. All in all I enjoyed my time, I’ll check out the sequel eventually but I’m not in a rush to jump into another lengthy game.
