4/5 ★ – Manic_Zucc's review of Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4.
The best thing about the Lego series is that there really isn’t a bad one. Each game does a good job of capturing their respective franchise and creating a simple but fun adventure.
Lego Harry Potter excels in these same areas. The humor is charming, the levels are fun, the music is fantastic, and the visuals are appealing. What really sets this one apart though is Hogwarts. Instead of the smaller hub world in the games that preceded it here we have an expansive hub in Hogwarts which is fully packed with secrets and collectibles. It’s one of the most fun games to gather the collectibles because of this new design change.
There are a few issues I have, small as they are. The character roster is a bit bloated. This goes for most Lego games but here you don’t just passively buy them you have to find their tokens so the bloat feels a lot more front and center. I also feel that some spells or potions went almost completely unused in the main game. Like the aging or invisibility potions or Expeliamus, these were rarely ever used.
Still though, the Lego series is just good fun. Nothing too complicated, but a great way to spend a few hours (especially in co-op).
