4.5/5 ★ – MechaDragonX's review of The Song of Saya.

The nightmare is over... What an amazingly well written piece of filth this was. Absolutely disgusting yet equally thought-provoking with its not quite explicit message of how the very nature of humanity is horrific. There aren't a whole lot of issues -- the last point is mostly just level of enjoyment I suppose -- but I do think there could have been less sex scenes. The first instance of intercourse and the instances of rape have reason to be there. You could argue any of these scenes with on a bit, but I don't want to discuss that. Later instances of sex scenes are less in focus, but more so in the background to make a point. I don't think they didn't need to be there, but they didn't need to last as long. They often made their point early on in the scene and didn't have to continue to, perhaps, a further act of sex. It just seems like it exists for people to oogle at, which aside from of one instance, the seductress bitch has the body of a child. Which leads me to more... The message of this story is very well done with the two main endings, but it still feels weird to me that all of this is done with the visage of a child seductress. In some cases this makes sense with the juxtaposition of how childish she seems in mannerisms and thoughts to her true nature, however in other cases it seems pointless. For example, she gets raped by a side character later in the story. The way that character became crazy is mostly relatable, but I cannot see the average person, even with this dark view of human nature to have an inclination towards such acts. I cannot see this whatsoever. This is the big problem with the story as Saya is described as the perfect beauty (even if this contradicted when Fuminori's thoughts on an ample-bodied women). Perhaps because everything else is done so well, I don't think this aspect is actually enough for it to lose a whole point.
