3/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Crackdown 2.
I’ve owned this game for years but only just now decided to give it a sincere go. I love the first one, but it is the kind of game that doesn’t really need a followup? Not that I didn’t enjoy this one, but as soon as I beat it, I deleted it from my hard drive because I would simply just play the first one again if I ever got the itch.
It’s almost the exact same game, but with a few changes that make it… worse. Instead of the crime ridden fortresses, we now have hordes of zombies to worry about. That could be fun, but something about these zombies are really unsatisfying to kill. Maybe it’s because they give you like 1 orb per kill, but I always enjoyed fighting Cell more. Speaking of, the multiple syndicates have now been replaced by one who is just kind of around. There’s no more leaders or bosses. Just a bunch of terrorists to kill sometimes. Again, this is not nearly as satisfying as assaulting a mansion and killing 100 guys to take out their boss.
The rest is basically the same. The shooting is still terrible, grenade launchers are unstoppable, and punching can still send a guy to the moon. The jumping is still the highlight, and driving is still all but useless. They have now added a wing suit, which sounded cool at first, but is also functionally useless. If you want to play a Crackdown game and have already beaten the first one several times, this one will work. Otherwise, just play the first one.
