Definitely the best of the trilogy, with improved level design, a far more interesting plot, and a larger enemy pool with a variety of combat options. That said, it’s just Gears. I like the first game and I like this one just a little more, but it’s not like a miraculous upgrade. It’s just a little better than the first. I am tempted to bump it up half a star because when I was in college, my roommates and I once left the Xbox on for three straight weeks because we were in the middle of a co-op Horde match and we would play like half an hour a day trying to hit the next wave. Took us forever but we finally beat it and it was the most triumphant experience we ever shared. But I think that was mostly on us and not the game.
