3/5 ★ – MechaniChris's review of Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja.
This is the first game I remember playing as a kid. Me and my brother would sit on the floor of our bedroom and play this for hours, always losing our last life at the skeleton dinosaur. I believe ONE time we made it to the very last level and we’re baffled to find it was INSIDE a dinosaur, but then we immediately got killed by a rolling Neanderthal.
So Nintendo added this to the SNES online and I decided to give it another go. First off, it’s no wonder we lost so many lives before getting to the end, there are parts were I believe it’s actually impossible to avoid getting hit by enemies. Also we were probably stupid enough to grab every weapon item when we saw it, instead of strategically keeping the better ones.
Thankfully this game is VERY short. Ran the whole thing in about an hour and a half. That feels like a bad thing in the modern age, but for these old nostalgia games, it’s the perfect length. It’s like watching a movie I liked as a kid. And I finally got to see the final boss of the game which is a little devil? This whole game was about dinosaurs and Neanderthals, what is the implication of this imp living in a dinosaur’s body? Why is he the final boss?
Anyway, I got closure on one of my childhood obsessions so I’d consider it a good use of time.
